our brains are muscles that need exercising everyday—Read! 📚
The Peaches and Sourcream Children’s Foundation summer reading rewards program is a virtual program held each summer for four weeks. It is the organization’s premier event. It‘s an accelerated reading program created specifically for children in grades kindergarten thru 6th —designed to combat summer slide and foster the joy of reading and writing.
Summer Slide
“ is the loss of academic skills and knowledge over the course of summer vacation.” Chosen students receive monetary incentives and other rewards commemorating their accomplishments.
The Peaches and Sourcream Children’s Foundation virtual reading goals are designed to boost reading skills and to build stamina.
The readers are required to read Monday thru Friday for twenty minutes at the same time each day.
Books will not be provided.
Readers are encouraged to read books in their home libraries, at their local libraries, the “Little Libraries” around town, and or, watch books on online.
The Peaches and Sourcream Children’s Foundation main focus is facilitating enjoyable reading experiences.
We suggest parents and or individuals working with readers create comfortable reading spaces or nooks so that the readers will not be distracted.
We also recommend filling the readers’ spaces with plenty of “picture” books chosen by the readers themselves.
We recommend ending reading sessions before 5pm.
Ending reading by 5pm will allow readers time to login and post summaries to the Reading Rewards software provided by the Peaches and Sourcream Children’s Foundation.
Each well written summary is worth $1.00.
Participants must be able to write about what happened in the beginning, middle, and end of every story.
The Peaches and Sourcream Children’s Foundation looks forward to sharing in your child’s summer reading experience.
Please note, notification regarding online orientation will be sent two weeks prior to starting.
